Significant shifts are occuring in the nation’s environmental agenda toward clear objectives that include improved quality of life, promotion of human health and safety, creation of sustainable economic vitality, and protection of environmental (and national) security. The shifts are motivated by the indisputable facts that the human “footprint” on natural systems is expanding, that the environment is crucial to the sustainable development of civil society’s goals, and that improved scientific understanding of the environment is a necessary ingredient of environmental policies aimed at achieving those goals. Because of these and other trends, the demand for ERM graduates is strong.
